In 1994, a strategic planning sub-committee chaired by Professor Hambrick, developed a proposal for faculty governance that was adopted by the faculty, and is often referred to as the Hambrick Report. Since that time, changes to the governance procedures were made through executive committee and faculty meeting resolutions and votes.

In 2012-2013, a faculty governance committee, chaired by Raymond Horton, reviewed the current state of School governance and issued a 2013 Faculty Governance Committee Report, which was adopted by the full faculty in May 2013. This report supersedes the policies set forth in the Hambrick Report.

In 2017-2018 a faculty governance review committee, chaired by Michael Johannes, recommended revisions to the 2013 report and the full-faculty of adopted the 2018 By-Laws of Columbia Business School, our current governing document on April 25, 2018.
