Dr. Mark Mason has decided to resign from his positions as Director of the Program on Alternative Investments and Associate Director for Programs of the Center on Japanese Economy on June 30, in order to pursue opportunities in the private sector. Mark will continue as a Senior Advisor to the Program.
The Center successfully initiated its Program on Alternative Investments four years ago under the leadership and with the energetic efforts of Mark Mason.
The central focus of the program thus far has been on hedge funds and private equity, considering Japanese banks, insurance companies and pension funds investing globally, including in Japan of course, and American and other alternative funds investing in Japan. Mark has built a wonderful program. It has been effectively achieving its goal of contributing an objective academic educational perspective and approach not just for Columbia students but especially for academics, policymakers and practitioners.
We deeply appreciate what he has accomplished, and thank him.
