More than 600 students, faculty members and administrators packed Miller Theater to listen to Jack Welch, former chairman and CEO of General Electric, discuss his distinguished career and the publication of his new book, Jack: Straight from the Gut. The event marked the launch of this year’s Silfen Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series.
In a moderated discussion hosted by Professor Amar Bhidé, who teaches in the Entrepreneurship program, Welch detailed how he oversaw the tremendous growth and redirection of General Electric. The talk included an intensive question-and-answer session with students about management issues, corporate growth and employment trends. Welch urged students to capitalize on their degrees and to find jobs that best utilize their skills and energy.
The Silfen Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series brings to campus top management perspectives. Recent speakers include Sanford Weill, chairman and CEO of Citigroup, and Arthur Levitt, former chairman of the SEC.
