Columbia Business School Professor Yash Kanoria spoke with NPR reporter Bobby Allyn about growing concerns surrounding prediction market platform Polymarket and its alleged ties to figures connected to the Trump administration. Kanoria explained that when prediction markets intersect with political power, questions about monitoring, governance, and market integrity become especially acute. He noted that insufficient oversight can raise risks of insider trading, manipulation, and distorted price signals—undermining the credibility of markets that are often promoted as tools for aggregating information. Kanoria emphasized the importance of transparency and regulatory clarity as prediction markets continue to expand in scope and influence.
