Columbia Business School Professor Kathryn Harrigan spoke with NerdWallet writer Kate Ashford about Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery and the high stakes of consolidation in the streaming industry. Harrigan explained that while mergers can create efficiencies and expand content libraries, they also raise concerns for subscribers around pricing, bundling, and reduced competition. She noted that consumers may initially benefit from streamlined platforms and broader offerings, but long-term outcomes will depend on how aggressively companies leverage market power and manage content strategy.
