Dear CBS Faculty, Students, and Staff:

I write today to support the University's message regarding the recent Supreme Court decision on affirmative action.

Columbia Business School, in step with the University, will follow the ruling – and will continue our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As scholars of business, we know research shows that diversity and plurality of backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge promotes innovation and improves outcomes.

Our commitment, at its core, is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected.

Those community members who need support are encouraged to reach out to our offices of student affairs (for students) or HR (for faculty and staff) for information about resources available at the School and University.

While we may not have immediate answers about how the Court's ruling will impact specific admissions practices at CBS, we will work with and follow University guidance and expand our efforts to build a welcoming community.

Thank you – to our students, faculty, and staff – for your commitment to continuing this work at CBS.

Costis Maglaras
Dean and David and Lyn Silfen Professor of Business
