Christina Zhu ’99
Christina Zhu is president and chief executive officer of Walmart China. Christina leads Walmart China, serving tens of millions of households nationwide with a seamless omnichannel experience across ~400 supercenters and Sam’s Clubs.
Since joining Walmart, she has spearheaded bold transformations in business and organization, and significantly accelerated digitalization. Under her leadership, Walmart China achieved a historic first in 2021, topping China's Top 100 Grocers list by the China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA). This leading position has been sustained, culminating in a 2023 top ranking on CCFA’s China Top Chain Stores list, a broader ranking encompassing diverse retail formats. Walmart China also earned recognition as a Great Place to Work®, a Best Workplace™ in Greater China, and a Top Employer.
A champion for corporate social responsibility and sustainability, Christina has led Walmart China to become a “regenerative company”, promoting environment and sustainable community development to create shared value for customers, associates, suppliers and communities. The company is living its commitment to the planet by sourcing responsibly, selling sustainable products, conserving natural resources, and reducing waste and carbon emissions.
Prior to joining Walmart, she served as president of Fonterra Greater China. She has transformed Fonterra, a diversified dairy company, into a market leader in China across consumer products, food services, ingredients and farming, through strategic initiatives including route-to-market transformation, digitalization and continuous innovation. The company achieved record growth both in revenue and in profitability, while developing a reputation as one of China’s top employers and a “Best Place to Work.”
Prior to joining Fonterra in 2011, Christina held various leadership roles in multinational companies in China and the US, such as Honeywell and McKinsey & Co.
Among her many Fortune rankings, Christina was listed among the world’s Most Powerful Women in Business in 2021, as well as being listed among Asia's and China's Most Powerful Women in multiple years. Christina holds a M.B.A. with honors from Columbia Business School, and a B.A. in Western Studies from Beijing Foreign Studies University.
