Monica Walter

Monica has more than 30 years as a successful business leader, family office executive, and educator. For over 18 years, she has been working with and advising global, multigenerational clients as a trusted advisor, consultant, mentor, facilitator, and a key member of the senior leadership team within a sophisticated, large single-family office for a five-generation family.
She strives to create alignment in collaboration with client families on why and how to grow into a flourishing, multigenerational family enterprise and execute the future they want to co-create. Monica customizes differentiated approaches based on clients' context and cultural perspective in addition to providing possible options and flexibility so that family members have choices while supporting the family enterprise. In addition to developing transformative connections in client and team relationships, she has created and implemented internal service strategies and processes.
Monica has had broad responsibility for strategy and tactical initiatives across a number of diverse areas. She has advised and created, developed, launched then managed initiatives in several areas, including: family governance and dynamics, continuity and succession planning, customized integrated education programs and curricula, opportunities and initiatives to build business and financial competence, personal and career development, philanthropy and charitable giving, board training, onboarding programs for family and staff, investment programs for younger generations and women’s only groups, family councils, client meetings and Retreats, financial planning, global and domestic benchmarking with other multigenerational families, family offices and private foundations, building relationships to share best practices and lessons learned.
She built the infrastructure as well as the family education and development curricula from the ground up, including customized personal development and multi-tiered, differentiated education plans and dashboards for individuals of all ages ensuring future generational growth, governance, and stewardship. She is a sought-after speaker on family governance and dynamics, family meetings, education, and development.
Monica brings a unique background to her roles with a career that spans continents and diverse experiences across international business, family office, financial planning, science, education, and development. Having lived extensively outside the United States in Africa, Australia, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, she brings a broad global perspective, sensitivity and understanding of many cultures and diverse viewpoints, diplomacy, flexibility, and a creative approach. She has built her success on seeing the big picture of the mission along with an attention to detail to effectively execute that mission.
Monica began her international business career in strategic marketing and commodities analysis at Middelburg Steel and Alloys, Ltd. and EXXON while living in London, England and Johannesburg, South Africa. She was instrumental in opening the London office for Middelburg, and was also the company’s liaison for British Steel, Commodities Research Unit and various other companies. Following her business career, Monica spent a number of years as an educator and curriculum developer in science and gifted education and continued to build and refine her skills in leadership, teamwork, mentoring, organization and organizational change, communication and problem solving.
With a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management of Technology from Georgia Tech University and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Delaware, Monica is also a financial planner having earned her Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Certificate from Emory University, an active member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council and the UHNW Institute. She is a registered mediator and arbitrator as well as a Certified Professional Facilitator for Stratton Interpersonal Leadership Styles. Monica is a travel enthusiast and a life-long learner. Additionally, she has been actively involved in the non-profit sector for years including as a Board Member of Gilda’s Club Greater Atlanta and the Cancer Support Community of Atlanta since 2007.
