He has worked on ~$8 billion of direct, entity-level, and joint venture real estate investments across the United States, from land entitlement and ground-up development to value-add acquisitions, distressed debt, recapitalizations, mezzanine debt, preferred equity, and public securities. His investment experience covers diverse geographies and sectors, including multifamily, student housing, co-living, condominiums, build-for-rent, office, medical office, senior housing, retail, industrial, cold storage, self-storage, and lodging. He has a breadth of experience in the investment management business, from setting strategy to sourcing, structuring, asset management, fundraising, financing, and team building.

In 2025, Raphael founded Outlook Ridge Ventures focusing on capitalizing select real estate opportunities. Previously, he was the CIO and led U.S. real estate investing for W5, a European family office, where he established the firm’s U.S. presence. Earlier, as a Senior Managing Director, he helped lead and build the real estate private equity investment team at C-III Capital Partners / Island Capital. Before that, he was a Managing Director at the real estate private equity arm of Fremont Group, the Bechtel family office, investing on behalf of the family and institutional investors.

Raphael received a B.Arch. from the University of Witwatersrand and then worked as an architect for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in New York. He later earned an MBA from Columbia Business School, where he now serves on the board of the Real Estate Circle.
