Sandra Tamer

Advisory Board Member
Tamer Institute
Columbia Business School

Sandra Tamer is a philanthropist and an active supporter of numerous causes focused on making the world a better place, through education and economic development, for the underprivileged and those living in poverty.

Sandra started her career as an engineer. After receiving her Master's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), she worked at Hewlett Packard in research and development in Palo Alto, CA, specializing in semiconductor and microprocessor design. She subsequently joined IBM in New England, in the sales and marketing department for engineering and financial products.

Sandra currently serves on the board of directors of Action Against Hunger, ACF, a recognized global leader that focuses on the intervention and fight against children malnutrition, and in the restoration of food security and self–sufficiency in at-risk communities.

Sandra is an advocate of early intervention for special needs children. She has taken coursework towards completion of a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Needs Education at the University of Miami. She worked at the Mailman Center for Child Development, a center that provides support to children with special needs and their families.

Sandra is also involved in a number of charities particularly ones that advance education for children and young adults, and provide employment opportunities for those in need. She currently is an activist for an emerging social enterprise in NYC that specializes in training students and placing them in meaningful jobs in the tech and media sectors. She also serves on the board of the RMF foundation that offers training and education of young adults and promotes social economic programs for those living in poverty.

Sandra currently serves on the director’s council of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in NY, and is a member of the museum’s contemporary arts committee. She is married to Tony Tamer, co-founder and co-CEO of H.I.G. Capital, a global private equity and alternative investment firm; together they have four daughters.
