Francisco Perez-Gonzalez
Francisco Pérez-González is the Franklin Pitcher Johnson Jr. Visiting Professor of Finance and Economics at Columbia Business School. He is also Professor of Finance and Dean (Business) at ITAM in Mexico City, and a Research Associate at the NBER in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Francisco received a Masters and a PhD in economics from Harvard University and holds a BS in Economics from ITAM in Mexico. Professor Pérez-González previously taught at Stanford Graduate School of Business, at the University of Chicago, at the University of Texas-Austin, at Columbia University and at ITAM. Prior to academia, he worked at the Mexican Ministry of Finance, at the Mexican Central Bank and at the Office of the President.
Professor Pérez-González research interests are in the intersection of corporate finance and organizational economics. His research agenda examines the importance of top managerial talent for organizations both in the U.S. and abroad using novel and creative empirical approaches. He has also examined the impact of risk management and capital structure policies on firm value. His research has been published at top finance and economics journals, such as the Journal of Finance, the American Economic Review, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics, among others, and has received international research awards including the Journal of Finance´s Brattle Prize, granted to the best corporate finance paper of the year, and the Spanish Jaime Fernández Araoz Corporate Finance Award.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Francisco serves as an independent director at Barclays Financial Group and Barclays Bank in Mexico, and at S4L-UTEL, a large online university in Latin America. Francisco also serves as a member of the EQUIS Accreditation Board; EQUIS is a leading accreditation system for business schools managed by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), based in Brussels. He is also a member of the Responsible Research in Business and Management (RRBM) Working Board, and was formerly Chair of AACSB´s Latin American and Caribbean Advisory Council.
Francisco was born in Teziutlán, Puebla, Mexico, and is married to his wife of over twenty-five years, and has one daughter and one son.
