Columbia Business School’s Executive Education Division announces its 7th annual Value Investing course, to be held June 1-2, 2005 in New York City. Presented by Professor Bruce C. Greenwald, the program covers quantitative valuation techniques as well as strategic methodologies for estimating franchise values. It is grounded in the original principles of value-based investment theory developed by Professors Benjamin Graham and David Dodd of Columbia Business School.
Bruce C. Greenwald, the Robert Heilbrunn Professor of Finance and Asset Management at Columbia Business School, is the Academic Director of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham and Dodd Investing. Professor Greenwald is an internationally recognized expert on the disciplines of value investing, productivity and the economics of information. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Columbia University Presidential Teaching Award, and is the co-author of the business bestseller, Value Investing.
The course is open to professional and individual investors. “Value Investing, taught by ‘standing-room only’ professor Bruce Greenwald, is a must for any portfolio manager or serious private investor,” says Ethan Hanabury, Associate Dean for Executive Education at Columbia Business School. “Columbia is recognized as a leader in value investing and finance.
The work of Graham and Dodd remains of unparalleled importance – Warren Buffett was a student of theirs here at Columbia. We are seeing unprecedented interest in the course this year – and the topic seems to be of increasing interest outside the U.S. as well.” The Value Investing course content includes quantitative valuation techniques such as arbitrage, asset-based approaches and the earning power method. “Real world” case studies are used to illustrate precise estimation of investment risk and the management of value portfolios.
“Some participants have returned to take this course a second time,” comments Mr. Hanabury. “The lessons of value investing are perennial.” About Executive Education at Columbia Business School Consistently top-ranked in Executive Education by the Financial Times and other surveys, Columbia Executive Education is a division of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business.
