The Arthur J. Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence was founded in 2002 with a generous grant from the late Arthur J. Samberg ’67, who was chairman of Pequot Capital Management, Inc. and a long-time member of the Columbia Business School Board of Overseers.

Michelle V. Hall
With a rich and diverse background in education, Michelle Hall brings three decades of experience to her current role as the Managing Director of the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence. Her journey began in secondary education before transitioning to prominent roles at Columbia University, where she spent seventeen years contributing to the Center for New Media Teaching and Learning and the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).

Terry Houston
Terry Lynn Houston is the Coordinator for the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence. She serves as Samberg’s front person and manages daily operations. Prior to joining Samberg in January 2020, Terry worked at Guttman Community College (CUNY) as a Academic Testing Specialist. Terry holds a BBA in Business Administration from Globe Institute of Technology and a MA from Long Island University. Terry grew up in Brooklyn, New York and has a passion for the advocacy of adult literacy.

Angie Lee
Angie Lee is the Director of Learning Platforms and Innovation at the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence. She provides leadership and strategic planning around educational technologies to support in-person, hybrid, and online learning at Columbia Business School (CBS).

Emily Marquez

Richard Tran
Richard Tran is the Assistant Director of Instructional Design at the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence. Prior to joining CBS, Richard worked at Teachers College, Columbia University's Digital Futures Institute as an Instructional Support Associate; he provided instructional design support for professors, facilitated workshops, and used front end code to update course pages' layouts.
Richard has a B.A. in Philosophy and a M.A. in Digital Media Design for Learning from New York University.
