Aamir Rehman
Aamir A. Rehman is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia Business School and a Senior Fellow at the Richard Paul Richman Center for Business, Law, and Public Policy at Columbia University. He has taught courses on private equity to over a thousand students since 2021 across the School's full-time MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Education programs.
Prof. Rehman brings both practitioner expertise and research-based insights to the classroom. His practice spans roles as a general partner (asset manager) in private equity, a limited partner (investor) in private capital markets, and an advisor to companies selling to private equity. His doctoral dissertation explored how private equity professionals develop acumen and learn from experience. His contributions to Columbia's Richman Center have focused on investors’ values alignment, ESG considerations, and the public aspects of private investments.
Dr. Rehman is Chair of Innate Capital Partners, a strategic investment office. Innate is an investor (LP) in numerous funds and a direct investor in over a dozen companies.In addition to his work in investment management, Dr. Rehman has served as a Senior Advisor to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and a Consultant to the World Bank Group’s Finance and Markets Global Practice.
Dr. Rehman serves on the boards of directors of multiple asset management firms. He was a board member of Forgent Power Solutions (NYSE: FPS) during its period of private equity ownership. Dr. Rehman is a trustee of Mercer County Community College (New Jersey), the Princeton Area Community Foundation (PACF), and Rutgers Preparatory School.
Prof. Rehman is the author of the books Dubai & Co.: Global Strategies for Doing Business in the Gulf States (McGraw-Hill, 2007) and Gulf Capital & Islamic Finance: The Rise of the New Global Players (McGraw-Hill, 2009). He is also author of numerous articles on international business strategy, the Gulf states, capital flows, and socially responsible investments.
Dr. Rehman’s work has been published and featured in journals including the Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, McKinsey on Society, and the Wharton Leadership Digest. He has presented at events hosted by the United Nations, the World Bank, the CFA Institute, the Global Impact Investment Network, and numerous universities.
Prof. Rehman holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, an MBA from the Harvard Business School, and a doctor of education (Ed.D.) degree from Columbia University. He was born and raised in New York City and resides with his family in Princeton Junction, New Jersey.
