CBS In the News

Mishpacha reporter Rafael Hoffman spoke with Columbia Business School Professor Carri Chan about the financial realities facing hospitals amid ongoing labor disputes. Chan explained that despite perceptions of hospital wealth created by philanthropy-funded buildings and high-profile facilities, many hospitals operate under significant financial strain. She noted that restricted donations and rising operating costs limit institutions’ flexibility to meet nurses’ pay demands, highlighting the structural challenges hospitals face in balancing workforce needs with financial sustainability.
