Columbia Business School’s Professor Gernot Wagner was featured in Bloomberg discussing a provocative argument circulating in policy circles: that the U.S. economy might benefit from stepping back from its clean-energy commitments. Speaking with reporter Emma Court, Wagner explained why abandoning these goals would be economically shortsighted. He emphasized that clean-energy investment drives innovation, reduces long-term climate risk, and strengthens U.S. competitiveness in global markets. Wagner noted that rolling back commitments would create regulatory uncertainty, deter private-sector investment, and leave the U.S. disadvantaged as other countries accelerate their transition to low-carbon technologies.
