Abstract
This article proposes a norm-based framework to integrate various cultural indicators, moving beyond isolated traits like individualism and collectivism. The authors argue that cultural values influence behavior primarily through social norms—defined rules for appropriate conduct. Central to this model is "cultural tightness," which dictates the strength of norm enforcement and social monitoring. The research highlights how environmental factors and polyculturalist mindsets affect cultural adaptation and identity. By viewing culture as a dynamic system of norms rather than static values, the study provides a deeper understanding of how societies maintain order and how individuals navigate intercultural interactions.
