Gentry Ashmore Hoit ’90 is joining Park Madison Partners as partner to advise clients on real estate acquisitions and capital-raising efforts. The New York-based real estate placement and advisory firm was cofounded by Nancy Lashine ’81.

Gary Appel ’77, who recently retired as Vice Chairman of the global middle market private equity funds manager, Castle Harlan, Inc., has been named Executive in Residence at Columbia Business School.

The Dr. Boris Yavitz Scholarship was recently endowed, honoring the former Columbia Business School Dean. “Boris cared deeply about the School and its students,” said Irene Yavitz, wife of former Dean Boris Yavitz, PhD ’64. “We’re so excited about this scholarship — it’s a fitting testament to his commitment and passion for the School.”  A business strategy professor at the School starting in 1964, Yavitz was appointed dean by then University President William J. McGill in 1975.

Four teams of second-year students competed for the Alexander Bodini Foundation Prizes in the Project Class in Real Estate Investment and Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition 2012, held on Monday, April 30. In an unusual outcome, two of the teams tied for first place due to the high quality of their presentations.

The largest-ever gathering of real estate alumni, spanning more than 50 class years, took place on April 30 at the Columbia Club of New York. This 2013 Annual Alumni Real Estate Reception honored Distinguished Real Estate Partner John R. Klopp of Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing.

Four Columbia Business School faculty members shared their expertise as part of a special panel, “Understanding the Euro Crisis,” moderated by Dean Glenn Hubbard, on Thursday, February 2 at the School.
