pEIR at CBS
Product Executives in Residence (pEIRs) are experienced product leaders who temporarily join the CBS community to enrich student’s academic experience. They join this program because they are passionate about technology and want to give back to the CBS community. pEIRs are currently employed by firms across a diverse set of industries where they build leading software applications central to the digital transformation of how we live, work and play.
pEIR Engagement in the Classroom
We set a high bar for membership that includes individuals who truly want to roll up their sleeves and engage with students. Like CBS students, pEIRs are expected to Present, Prepared and Participating in the program. pEIRs are encouraged to contribute to CBS by participating in their own unique ways, that should include several of the following activities during the academic year:
- Sponsor a project for the Digital Product Management Lab course, where the pEIR presents a “problem to be solved” from their current employer and guides a student team through a semester long effort to develop a product focused solution and commercialization thesis
- Guest lecture in the classroom or at CBS wide events
- Contribute to the curricula via development of case studies, classroom exercises and/or new courses that are relevant to technology and digital product development
- Mentor students via office hours
Beyond the Classroom
Along with mentoring a new generation of product leaders, executives become members of the Columbia Business School community where they can engage in the robust programming at CBS that includes events and conferences, exposure to leading research, and access to thought leadership newsletters and programming, to name a few. We also encourage pEIRs to network with one another via our pEIR focused events.
