Welcome to the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Management Program (HPM). I joined Columbia Business School (CBS) in 2010 and became the Faculty Director of the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Management Program (HPM) in July 2021. I am thrilled to lead this program and have the opportunity to engage with our amazing and accomplished students, alumni, as well as industry and clinical partners.
According to the World Health Organization, global health expenditures are approaching 10% of GDP. In the United States, this number is hovering around 17-18% of GDP. Undoubtedly, the healthcare sector has become an integral part in everyone’s lives and the broader economy. HPM is a program focused on educating future business leaders in healthcare; mentoring students and alumni on career opportunities in the healthcare industry; collaborating with schools within the University; engaging with industry leaders on program initiatives; and developing thought leadership in the space.
We have a robust curriculum with exciting electives that cover a broad spectrum of critical challenges and opportunities within healthcare. Our full-time faculty are thought leaders whose research provides important insights into critical questions facing the healthcare sector. Our adjunct professors are successful industry practitioners who provide students with real-world perspectives that bridge the gap between theory and practice. We have a large and robust alumni network that engages though career mentorship and education opportunities. We have a dedicated and accomplished advisory board. We are constantly increasing our ties to companies and employers and engaging in a number of cross-Columbia healthcare-related collaborations with sister schools.
In 2018, HPM received our first-ever endowed gift from Tom DeRosa ’88, CEO of Welltower, a member of the Columbia Business School Board and HPM Advisory Board. As Tom commented, “For generations, Columbia University has been a leader in medicine, medical research, health-related sciences, and technologies that have had a profound impact on global healthcare. I believe that Columbia Business School and the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Management Program are uniquely positioned to convene the broader University community around educating the next generation of business leaders who will transform how healthcare is delivered.”
Our location in New York City puts us in close proximity to some of the top providers in the nation as well as many business leaders in biopharmaceuticals, healthcare investing, health tech, and health entrepreneurship. If you are considering a career in healthcare and/or want to find ways to grow professionally, Columbia Business School and HPM provides an exciting and innovative learning environment and opportunity. We are defined by the combination of our focused and growing curriculum, Columbia Business School’s top-ranked MBA training, and the involvement of our broad network of supporters. I encourage you to explore our program, and we look forward to working with you towards your goals.
Sincerely,
