Current Work:
Vice President, Clinical Services, Healthfirst
“I really can't imagine an industry more exciting than healthcare- it's complex, it's meaningful, it's fascinating…”
Describe what you do.
I help manage population health for Montefiore Health System. I oversee an amazing team that works in the community to improve the health of the Bronx doing things like helping bodegas stock and promote healthier items, organizing flu drives in high risk areas and teaching adolescents about the sugar content in their drinks. I also support the design and implementation of new programs in our clinics, like the scale out of our diabetes prevention classes and a new tobacco counseling workflow
How did you become interested in Healthcare? What drew you in?
I wanted to be a doctor from an early age, mostly because I was both fascinated by the human body and interested in helping others
What do you enjoy most about your career or position?
Every day brings a different challenge and I'm so blessed to work with a great team, for a supportive boss and at a great institution. I haven't been bored at work in over 10 years- I can't even imagine what that would feel like. I really can't imagine an industry more exciting than healthcare- it's complex, it's meaningful, it's fascinating.
How has your CBS experience influenced your career?
The students and faculty I met at CBS were incredibly inspiring. Never was I ever surrounded by so many people with positive outlooks on life who saw nothing but the endless possibilities they had to pursue their dreams
What is your favorite CBS memory, such as a favorite professor, spot on campus, or social event?
I always loved Thursday happy hour because it was a time to relax and get to know your professors and classmates in an informal environment. I also appreciated how the entire student body pulled together after 9/11, which happened several months into our first year. The sense of community, support and shared trauma I think really brought our class together
As a leader in healthcare, what qualities do you look for when hiring new MBA graduates?
I like to see candidates who are knowledgeable about the role and the industry, but who aren't afraid to point out areas they don't know as well. I like to see people who have ideas about how they would like to improve the health care system and who don't just criticize the status quo
What would you say to a prospective student considering CBS and the HPM Program?
Go for it! You will be getting both the foundation you need to succeed in any sector as well as key insights into the health care sector
