Columbia Business School's Approach to Values-Based Leadership
Columbia Business School has a long-standing tradition of developing values-based leaders at the personal, interpersonal, and contextual levels. We believe values are an essential part of leadership and form the foundation for successful careers, effective organizations, strong communities, and meaningful lives. Values-based leadership means defining your principles clearly and living them consistently when working with others within and across organizations.
The Individual, Business, and Society Curriculum (IBSC) begins with a series of sessions during Orientation where students explore a thought-provoking multi-part case that fosters dialogue around the gray areas of business ethics.
In the classroom, core course lectures and case studies invite students to think critically about ethical dilemmas, conflicts and trade-offs. Complementing these in-class discussions are guest lecturers, panel discussions, case competitions, and other special events throughout the academic year.
