Service Requirements for Private Equity Fellows Program Candidates
Each student who is considered a PE Fellow is going to be looked up to as a leader and as such, each is expected to give back to the PE community at Columbia.
There are many ways to do this, such as being a TA, having a leadership role with the PE Club, or leading the interview prep sessions for the PE Club. Other opportunities include case writing projects, or leading a PE guest speaker discussion.
Many students are already doing service activities given their current activities at the School, and those activities will count towards the PE Fellows requirement.
Students should expect to put in at least 10-15 hours each term giving back, and should report back to the PE Program each semester on their progress and learnings.
The Program has put together a point scheme (below), so students can understand the of the kinds of projects accepted. Each student should aim for 3 points per term.
Fellows Program candidates can propose their own service projects, and should keep in mind the following guidelines:
Service project objectives:
- Strengthen the PE community at Columbia
- Foster leadership skills among the PE Fellows
Service projects should:
- Engage and benefit others in the PE community – such as your fellow class mates, students who are exploring PE, alumni or the community at large
- Offer a constructive benefit to the School and the PE Program at Columbia
Reporting and deliverables:
- At the end of each term, students will submit a summary of their activity and the deliverable listed below.
