Columbia Business School announced the launch of its first student-led value investing portfolio, the 5x5x5 Student Value Investment Fund. The innovative fund, named for its unique structure, affords students the invaluable opportunity to connect value-oriented investment theories to real-world practice as they apply their classroom learning to the management of this fund. The fund was made possible by a generous gift from Thomas Russo, a partner at Gardner Russo & Gardner LLC.

The Richman Center brought together a panel of the authors behind the new Center for Global Enterprise book, Growing Global: Lessons for the New Enterprise.

More than 400 online attendees gleaned investing wisdom from Professors Bruce Greenwald and Tano Santos during the Columbia Business School webinar “Past, Present, and Future of Value Investing” on Monday, February 8.

The Richman Center held a discussion with Clifford S. Asness, Managing and Founding Principal at AQR, about risk and return.

In June, Charles Calomiris, the Henry Kaufman Professor of Financial Institutions, was appointed the new faculty director of the Program for Financial Studies. He succeeds Laurie Hodrick, the A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics, who served as founding director of the program and guided its establishment and activities since the program’s inception in 2010.

Through Columbia Caseworks, The Private Equity Program has published a   “Technical Note on LBO Valuation and Modeling.” The Technical Note is intended for use by practitioners and academics, including MBA students, who are learning to model leveraged buy-outs.

A big congratulations to CBS for taking both 1st and 2nd place in the ABI Corporate Restructuring Competition! The $6,000 first place was awarded to Colin McCarthy '16, Mark Reynolds '16, Wariz Anifowoshe '16 and Andrew Longley '16, and the $3,500 second place was awarded to Ari David '16, Catalin Cibu '16, Robert Dellinger '16 and Adam Yoran '16.
