Anchor Section
What it does: Creates a named anchor point on the page so users can jump directly to a section via a URL hash (e.g., yourpage.edu/page#research-centers). The anchor itself is invisible — it's a positional marker, not a visible block.
When to use it: Long pages with jump navigation, or pages linked from elsewhere with the expectation of landing at a specific section.
How to Add
- Edit the page node.
- Click Add Component → Anchor Section.
- Place the component at the top of the section it represents.
Fields to Fill In
| Field Label | What to Enter | Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anchor Section ID | A unique, lowercase, hyphenated identifier (e.g., research-centers, apply-now) | No | Becomes the #hash in the URL. No spaces, no uppercase, no special characters. Must be unique on the page. |
How to Update
- Edit the page, open the Anchor Section component.
- Update the Anchor Section ID if the section has been renamed.
- Save — but also update any links (on this page or others) that point to the old anchor ID. Stale anchor links silently fail, dropping users at the top of the page.
⚠️ Before renaming an Anchor ID, search the CMS for all pages that link to the old anchor (e.g., search for #old-id) and update those links too.
