Block Embed

Step-by-Step Guide

Block Embed

What it does: Adds a reusable block from the Drupal block library into the page as its own section—like dropping a pre-made widget between Callouts or grids. Visitors see whatever that block is designed to show (lists, feeds, calendar UI, etc.), with the same spacing and headings as other page sections.

When to use it:

  • The content already exists (or should exist) as a custom block in the block library.
  • You need something dynamic or maintained by code (not copy you type into a Text or Callout component).
  • MarComms or the web team has told you to “embed” a specific block on a landing page.

When not to use it:

  • Regular marketing copy, images, or a simple CTA → use Callout, Content Grid, Primary Lander Text, etc.
  • A listing powered by a View → use Views Embed.
  • A form → use Webform Embed.
  • You are not sure which block to choose → stop and request MarComms setup rather than guessing.

Where it appears in the CMS: On Landing Pages, Block Embed is added inside the Cards component list (same area as Callout, Tabs, Content Grid, and similar components). Other page types only include Block Embed if the web team has enabled it there.

How to Add

Prefer MarComms to do this? Send a Hive request with the landing page link, the block name (if known), and whether the section needs a visible heading. Skip the steps below.

  1. Edit the Landing Page.
  2. Scroll to Cards.
  3. Click Add Card → choose Block Embed.
  4. Expand the new Block Embed row and fill in the fields in the table below.
  5. If the block you need is not in the list, do not publish an empty embed—ask the web team to create the block in the block library first, or ask MarComms to configure it.
  6. Save and view the public page.

Fields to Fill In

Field LabelWhat to EnterRequired?Notes
BlockChoose the reusable block from the dropdown/search.YesNothing will show on the page until a block is selected. Only content blocks from the block library appear here—not menus, views, or system blocks. If you do not see the block you need, request help from MarComms or the web team.
Block title / headingIn the block settings on this field, set the section title and whether it should display on the page.NoUse when the embedded section needs a visible heading above the block content. Some blocks supply their own layout; follow MarComms guidance for that block type.
Remove MarginCheck to tighten spacing between this section and the component above.NoUse if the gap above the section looks too large compared to neighboring components.
Remove PaddingCheck to reduce extra space at the top inside the section.NoUse if the block content sits too far below the section start. MarComms often adjusts these when polishing layout.

How to Update

  1. Edit the landing page and open the Block Embed card in the Cards list.
  2. Change the selected Block, heading settings, or spacing checkboxes as needed.
  3. Remember: editing the block in the block library changes it everywhere that block is embedded—not only on this page.
  4. Save and check the live page.

For content or layout changes you are not comfortable making, MarComms can update Block Embed on your behalf—include the page URL and what should change in a Hive request.

Common issues

  • Blank area on the page: No block was selected, or the block is unpublished. Ask MarComms to verify the embed and block status.
  • Wrong block or missing from the list: Submit a Hive request; the web team may need to create or enable the block in the library first.
  • Heading looks wrong: Adjust title/display in the Block field settings, or ask MarComms to align with other sections on the page.
  • Spacing does not match other components: Try the Remove Margin / Remove Padding checkboxes, or ask MarComms to match neighboring Callouts/grids.
