Our Services
Media Relations
In partnership with SKDK, the CBS MarComms Public Relations (PR) team manages media outreach and coordinates interest across print, radio, and TV platforms. Our goal is to amplify the School’s work, faculty research, and events through strategic media engagement.
Media Outreach & Queries
SKDK compiles a weekly Tip Sheet highlighting CBS news and faculty research, which is distributed to media outlets to generate coverage and interest. When media inquiries arise, the PR team works closely with internal departments and faculty to coordinate responses and ensure timely, accurate communication.
Press Releases
The PR team crafts press releases on significant research, curricular innovations, and school achievements, distributing them through major newswires to enhance visibility. For groups that are writing their own press releases, our department can help.
Media at Events
For press-covered events, the PR team coordinates media invitations, handles press logistics on-site, and ensures event coverage aligns with the School’s media strategy. Learn more about inviting media to your events.
Merchandise
We coordinate CBS-branded merchandise through the Gear Store and biannual Pop-up Shop. Working closely with outside vendors, our team ensures that CBS faculty, staff, students, and alumni have access to high-quality apparel, accessories, and swag that reflect the School's brand.
External Branding
In collaboration with the Design team, we are responsible for maintaining CBS’s external-facing brand. This includes working with Columbia University’s Trademark & Licensing office to approve branded material requests and reviewing logos for student groups, ensuring consistent and professional use of the CBS brand across all materials.
Faculty Tours
Each semester, we conduct 10-15 Faculty Tours to stay informed on groundbreaking faculty work. After meeting with faculty, we collaborate with SKDK to determine whether their research aligns with current media interests. If so, we promote it to our curated media list. Faculty interested in participating in a Faculty Tour can reach out to the PR team.
School Rankings Outreach
The Public Relations team works in partnership with the Dean's Office Data Team to manage the rankings process of external outlets. Our team focuses on outreach to applicable students and alumni needed to complete the outside survey process. By effectively communicating with the CBS community, we help ensure a strong, engaged audience for rankings surveys and outreach efforts.
