Legacying Together

From Receiving the Story to Rewriting the Script

Legacy is often understood as something we inherit or preserve. This conference invites participants to see legacy as something lived. It is shaped by the choices we make every day and by the ways we interpret the stories, expectations, opportunities, and responsibilities that come with being part of an enterprising family.

Legacying Together reframes legacy as a present-day practice rather than something confined to the past or future. Participants will explore how identity, values, ownership structures, relationships, and family dynamics influence the legacies they are shaping. The day encourages thoughtful reflection, clarity, and agency as families and next-generation leaders consider what they have inherited and what they hope to pass forward.

Session 1: What We Build Together (9:15 AM)

This opening conversation brings the conference’s core message to life: legacy is co-created. Not inherited in a one-way transfer, but authored, together, across difference.

The conversation also opens a second essential lens for the day: legacy needs vehicles. A book is not just content, it is a carrier of memory, meaning, and relationship. Federico and Jacopo will reflect on how their lived experience shaped what they wrote, how writing reshaped what they understood about their relationship, and how an artifact can hold what is hardest to say directly, especially in the intimate, complex terrain of father–son bonds in family enterprise.

Session 2: Legacy as an Act of Co-Creation (10:00 AM)

Ali Sabancı ’95 brings the perspective of someone who has lived legacy from the inside, and reshaped it through action. As a third-generation member of a leading Turkish business family and an entrepreneur known for building and transforming businesses, Ali has navigated the real questions families face when continuity is not automatic: how do you honor what came before while still creating what must come next?

In this hands-on workshop, based on Ali’s story, Professor Gaia Marchisio Gaia will introduce a practical framework to help participants make legacy workable, not as a vague idea, but as a shared practice. Participants will be guided to build their own Legacy Map: a simple, powerful tool to identify the different components of legacy at play (family, founder, enterprise, entrepreneurial spirit), clarify what they want to carry forward, and name what they may need to reinterpret or redesign. Attendees will use the map throughout the day to make sense of each conversation and leave with a personal version to take home.

Session 3: Lived as Choice, Passed on as Memory (11:30 AM)

We often describe legacy as founder heroism, the visionary, the builder, the name on the door. This session adds a vital piece to that story. It recognizes how wives, mothers, and grandmothers, sometimes quietly, sometimes with unmistakable force, shape what a family carries forward: its values, its relationships, its sense of belonging, and the entrepreneurial spirit that keeps reinvention possible.

In a rare opportunity, we will hear from Angelica and Riccardo, Wanda Ferragamo’s grandchildren as they reflect on how her presence influenced who they became, what they absorbed, what they chose to embody, and how they translated her legacy into their own lives. Their stories illuminate how continuity in a great family enterprise is sustained not only through strategy and governance, but through memory, character, and the everyday decisions that keep a remarkable brand, and a remarkable family story, alive.

Legacy is not a one-way transfer. It is relational by nature: something is sent, and something must be received, interpreted, translated, and lived. This session centers the often-overlooked side of the equation: the receiver of legacy, and the crucial role next-generation members play in whether legacy becomes a source of strength or a source of constraint.

Three remarkable next-generation women: bringing perspectives shaped by distinct cultures, gender expectations, and social norms (Korean, Indian, and Latin American), will share their lived experience of inheriting family and enterprise legacies across different contexts. Together, they will reflect on what motivates the next generation to embrace a legacy, when and why they may resist it, and what makes integration possible without the painful trade-off of feeling disloyal.

Make no mistake: this is not only a next-generation session. It is a rare opportunity for parents and senior-generation leaders to hear, directly and respectfully, the kind of insights they may not always get to hear from their own children. For next-generation participants, it offers language and examples for how to show up with agency and care; for the previous generation, it offers a window into what helps legacy land well, so continuity can be built not only through what is given, but through how it is received, co-authored, and therefore renewed.

This session brings two distinct lived perspectives on that question. Together, they will explore what a family office can really do for legacy: how it supports (rather than substitutes) family voice, how it co-creates continuity with non-family talent, and how it adapts across contexts, industry, geography, and the family’s stage of development. Participants will leave with a clearer sense of the design choices that matter: what to institutionalize, what to keep human, and how to ensure the “structure” serves the story, not the other way around.

This session is a real conversation between a second generation and third-generation cousins—people who are carrying a legacy while also reshaping it. What makes it especially interesting is that the second generation is not only “the previous generation.” They were once the receivers too, and they know what it feels like to inherit expectations, translate them, and then later become the ones who pass them on.

Their family story is also grounded in strong spiritual values, which adds an important layer: when legacy is built on faith and deep convictions, it can be a powerful source of direction, unity, and purpose, but it can also raise honest questions as the family grows. How do you keep the strength of the foundation while making room for different voices, different lives, and sometimes different interpretations of what those values mean in practice?

This conversation explores both sides of a strong legacy, what it makes easier (clarity, belonging, pride, resilience) and what it can make harder (pressure, misunderstandings, feeling “outside” the story). Above all, it is about an ongoing learning process: how a family stays rooted while becoming more inclusive, and how they keep evolving without losing what truly matters.

This closing session is a dialogue between two leaders who share something rare: a brand name that has become part of everyday life, and therefore part of other people’s stories, not just their own.

On one side is Tito Beveridge, a wealth creator who built Tito’s Handmade Vodka from zero into a global name while keeping a fierce sense of independence and purpose. On the other is Gonzalve Bich, a third-generation leader who inherited an iconic family enterprise, and took on the job of renewing it without breaking what made it trusted, recognizable, and enduring.

 Together, they will explore what a famous name does to the legacy conversation: how a brand becomes a powerful “carrier” of values, identity, and expectations, and how it also raises the stakes, because the world is watching. The dialogue will surface two different mindsets shaped by generation and role: what keeps a founder up at night when thinking about what comes after them, and what challenges a successor faces when carrying a massive inherited legacy: from pressure and scrutiny, to the risk of freezing the business in tradition, to the responsibility of evolving the brand without losing its soul.

After a full day of legacy, this final conversation offers a thoughtful closing question for every family in the room: how do you keep the founder force without trapping the next generation: how do you pass the name, the values, and the purpose without freezing the future?

Tito Beveridge

Tito Beveridge

Founder, Fifth Generation, Inc., Home of Tito's Handmade Vodka

Bio

Fifth Generation, Inc., the home of Tito’s Handmade Vodka and LALO Tequila, was founded by sixth-generation Texan, Bert “Tito” Beveridge. After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, his career track took a few turns, but between oil fields and mortgage lending, he found time to do what he loved: make people smile with spirits. Tito got a kick out of infusing vodka for friends and handing out bottles at parties. He quickly became known as "the vodka guy."

 

Willing to risk it all, he pursued the career of his dreams and set out to build a distillery. Tito found a plot of land in rural Austin, constructed a small, bare-bones shack and a homemade pot still, and funded his passion of making “a vodka so smooth you could drink it straight” by opening 19 personal credit cards. He fought Texas laws, took on nearly $90,000 of debt, and for several years, played a one-man show to get his dream going, overseeing all distilling, hand-bottling, and selling during the hours in between. In 1997, he sold his first case of Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

 

Nearly three decades later, Tito’s has gained a reputation for its high-quality product, charitable contributions, and its goal to make people happy while making the world a better place.

 

In 2025, LALO Tequila, co-founded by Eduardo "Lalo" González, David "R" Carballido, and Jim McDermott, joined the Fifth Generation, Inc. family. LALO honors three generations of tequila-making tradition and has built a loyal following for its clean, unadulterated flavor.

Gonzalve Bich

Bio

Gonzalve is a global executive, board member, and investor with deep experience at the intersection of family ownership, global public markets, and long-term value creation.

He spent more than two decades at BIC, where he held senior executive roles culminating in CEO. During that period, he worked closely with the founding family, the Board, and the Family Council, navigating multi-generational governance while leading a publicly listed, globally scaled consumer goods company operating in more than 160 countries.

In the aftermath of significant disruption across BIC’s core industries, Gonzalve led the Horizon transformation program, which re-focused the company’s strategic priorities, restored discipline, and returned the business to sustainable and profitable growth. Under this framework, BIC also increased long-term investment in sustainability and social impact—most notably improving learning conditions for approximately 250 million children globally. 

Beyond his operating career, Gonzalve serves on public and private company boards in the U.S. and Europe, advises family-controlled businesses on governance and leadership transitions, and is active as an investor in growth-stage companies. He sits on the Advisory Board of EDHEC Business School in France and lectures at universities in both the United States and Europe, with a focus on leadership, governance, and long-term value creation.

His work centers on the real tensions family enterprises face: resilience after crisis, alignment between owners and professional leadership, and building enduring institutions without sacrificing performance or human perspective.

Robert Buccini

Bio

Robert Buccini is Founder of the Buccini Pollin Group, Inc. (“BPG”), a privately-held, real estate investment, development and management company. BPG develops and acquires hotel, office, residential, retail, and parking properties, and sports and entertainment venues throughout the United States.
 

He is responsible for and leads the company’s residential, commercial, retail, parking, sports and entertainment development activities. Since co-founding the company, Rob has grown the company to over $6 billion in transactions, including ownership of six million square feet of office and retail space, over 10,000 hotel rooms, 3,500 apartments and four live entertainment venues.
 

Rob is also a Co-Founder and Partner of Corten Real Estate Management LLC where he oversees the Firm’s multifamily investment strategy. In addition, Mr. Buccini is a co-founder and co-owner of Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union.
 

Prior to founding BPG, Rob was employed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Rob received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cornell University.

Riccardo Ferragamo

Bio

Member of the third generation of the Ferragamo family, Riccardo is a business leader shaped by the values and challenges of family entrepreneurship. After starting his career in strategic consulting at McKinsey & Company, he went on to co-found a startups, gaining hands-on experience in building, leading, and transforming businesses. Today, after 5 years in the company spent within the digital and retail sectors, he serves as Area Manager Central Europe at Salvatore Ferragamo, where he contributes to the evolution of a multi-generational family enterprise.

Ayushi Gupta ’26

Bio

Since she was 11 years old, she has been closely involved with her family’s Venture Capital firm, IvyCap Ventures, where she has contributed to investment evaluation and strategic discussions. Her experience spans both the investor perspective through venture capital and the founder perspective as co-founder of GrayKea (pronounced Grey-key-aa), a student-focused crowdfunding platform that helped 10 students fund their college tuition. 

 

Prior to business school, she worked as a Product Manager at Microsoft, leading cross-functional teams and building data-driven systems at scale. 

 

After graduating, Ayushi will join McKinsey & Company as a Consultant.

Hyerin Joo is a second-year MBA candidate at Columbia Business School with a strong interest in technology product development, strategy, and family enterprise. 

Prior to business school, she worked as a product manager at her family business’s hiring service app, where she led app enhancement initiatives and user experience research. 

After graduation, Hyerin plans to return to the family business, focusing on strategy and financial planning.

Bio

Guided by his dedication to family, faith and community, The Honorable Francis X. Kelly Jr. has carved out an exemplary role in public service, business and civic involvement—a career grounded in his spiritual commitment to personal ethics and professional integrity.

A resident of Hunt Valley, Maryland, Frank and his wife, Janet, in 1976 founded a business in the basement of their Timonium home to assist owners of small companies acquire affordable health insurance benefits for their employees. Today, Kelly & Associates Insurance Group (KAIG) is one of Maryland’s fastest-growing privately held firms. It is the region’s leading health insurance broker/administrator with approximately 10,000 corporate clients. The expanding enterprise (Kelly Benefits), now run by their four sons, includes other entities that provide payroll and retirement plan services and, together, Kelly Benefits now employs approximately 500 people at its Sparks and regional offices. Frank is the Chairman of KAIG.

He is a graduate of Villanova University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, a major that has proven its value. In 1979, Frank won election to the Maryland State Senate, representing the citizens of northern Baltimore County. It was the start of a 12-year tenure defined by leadership, effectiveness and compassion.

Senator Kelly sponsored Maryland’s Spending Affordability Law, which created the Spending Affordability Committee in 1984 and has since saved taxpayers millions of dollars. He also supported legislation that helped create the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), the University System of Maryland and the upgrade and revamping of the Medevac helicopter fleet.

He worked closely with Dr. R Adams Cowley, the father of shock trauma, and was primary sponsor of the law creating the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. The Honorable Francis X. Kelly Distinguished Professorship in Trauma Surgery, the nation’s first chair in trauma surgery, was named by The University of Maryland School of Medicine after Senator Kelly in 2000. This professorship is held by Dr. Thomas M. Scalea, who is considered the finest trauma surgeon in the world.

In 1984, Senator Kelly was part of a team of legislators that helped pass legislation, signed into law by Governor Harry Hughes, that led to the successful separation of the financially challenged University of Maryland Hospital from the University of Maryland, creating the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). This private, not-for-profit entity is today a multi-billion network of 13 hospitals that serves as a national model of stability, patient safety and medical innovation.

For the next 35 years following its founding, Senator Kelly continued his passion for and commitment to UMMS’ success by serving in numerous board and committee roles. He served as chairman of the Shock Trauma Board of Visitors from its inception through 2019. In addition, after leading the University of Maryland Medical Center’s efforts to acquire the St. Joseph Medical Center, he was appointed its initial chair from 2012 to 2019.

Senator Kelly has been a trusted adviser to governors of both parties and other political and business leaders. He is such a driving force for positive change that two successive governors from different parties appointed him to the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, where he served from 2005 to 2016.

In 1996, Frank was asked by Baltimore County Executive Dutch Ruppersberger to help revamp the Community College of Baltimore County. As board chair from 1996-2005, he consolidated three separate colleges (Catonsville, Essex and Dundalk) into a single, multi-campus institution that is thriving as the state’s largest community college system. CCBC’s Hunt Valley Center is named in his honor. Frank also served 14 years as vice chair of the Morgan State University Board of Regents from 1991-2005.

In 2011, Frank and Janet Kelly were named the Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year by the Maryland Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. They were also honored by The Children’s Guild, which named its Autism Center after them in 2012.

He is the immediate past chair of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and remains on its board. He helped spearhead the $650 million capital campaign of the University System of Maryland, Baltimore; Shock Trauma’s $160 million building campaign, and has been prominent in revitalizing the Calvert Hall College High School campus. Frank is also an active member of Caves Valley Golf Club, where he sits on the Board of Directors. In addition, he currently serves as President of the Orchid Island Community Association in Vero Beach, Florida.

In 2016, Frank was named an inaugural inductee in the Baltimore Sun’s Maryland Business and Civic Hall of Fame, as well as the Catholic Business Person of the Year by the Catholic Business Network of Baltimore. His other awards include: the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center’s “St. Joseph the Worker Award,” the Calvert Hall President’s Medal, the first recipient of the Baltimore Association of Health Underwriters’ “Person of the Year” award; the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters’ Hall of Fame; the Maryland Motor Truck Association’s “Man of the Year;” Stuart Macht Award for Business Excellence (Baltimore County government); Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Hall of Fame; the Chimes Hall of Fame; the Dyslexia Tutoring Foundation’s “Man of the Year;” the American Trauma Society’s Distinguished Achievement Award, and the Monsignor Bonner High School (Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania) St. Augustine Medal and Hall of Fame, where he was also a member of its first graduating class in 1957. Frank Kelly has been recognized as one of the top 100 Irish business leaders in the United States by Irish America magazine.

In 2019, Surrender to Win, The Story of The Honorable Francis X. Kelly Jr., was published. Beginning on the stoops of Brooklyn, the book follows Frank’s journey through marriage, raising a family, and the founding and continued growth of Kelly Benefits, to his service in the Maryland State Senate and beyond, all while sharing the experiences and simple principles that have guided his approach to life.

In 2024, Frank and Janet celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. It is a partnership dedicated to faith and family (22 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two more on the way). All their sons, Frank III, John, David and Bryan, work with their father at Kelly Benefits—a privilege for Frank and a formula for success that has taken the company to a level he never imagined.

Frank Kelly III serves as CEO of Kelly & Associates Insurance Group, Kelly & Associates Financial Services (Kelly Benefits Payroll), Kelly Benefits Exchange, and Kelly Integral Solutions—collectively known as Kelly Benefits.

Under Frank’s leadership, Kelly Benefits has become one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing providers of group insurance, benefits and payroll solutions for employers of every size. Since Frank was named President in 1994, Kelly Benefits has grown from a corporate client base of 1,000 to more than 10,000. Annualized premiums and payroll administered and under management have risen from $20 million to over $4 billion.

A long-time board member and past president of both the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU)–now the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals-Maryland Chapter–and the Baltimore Association of Health Underwriters (BAHU), Frank III has earned professional designations as a Registered Employee Benefit Consultant (REBC), Registered Health Underwriter (RHU), Health Insurance Associate (HIA), Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). Frank was honored as the BAHU Person of the Year in 2001 and inducted into the MAHU Hall of Fame in May 2012.

Frank obtained his insurance license in 1984 while still in college and worked at the company in telephone sales during the summer months. Two years later, after graduating from college, he became an account executive for small businesses in trade associations. In 1988, Frank was named Sales Manager, and then, in 1989, Vice President of Sales for the company. When he was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1991, he assumed responsibility for overall marketing and all operations of the company. In 1994, Frank was named President of Kelly Benefits; in 2007, he was named CEO.

Outside the office, Frank is involved in many community and civic activities. He served as Chairman of the Maryland Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and on FCA Lacrosse Leadership Boards for nearly 20 years. He also served on the FCA National Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2003 and 2014 to 2020. Frank was inducted into the FCA Hall of Champions in 2013 and the FCA Ring of Honor in 2016.

Frank also serves or has served on many non-profit boards, including Calvert Hall College High School, Calvert School, USA Lacrosse Foundation, Maryland Chamber of Commerce, The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Living Classrooms Foundation, Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, Greater Baltimore Committee, AFRO Charities, Inc., Signal 13 Foundation, Maryland Family Institute, Baltimore City FCA and the World Vision Leadership Council. Frank was elected to his alma mater, Calvert Hall College High School, Hall of Fame in 2013 and was inducted into the USA Lacrosse Greater Baltimore Chapter Hall of Fame in 2018.

Frank and his wife, Gayle, served as co-chairs for Helping Up Mission’s $61 million Inspiring Hope campaign, which built a new 145,000-square-foot Center for Women & Children in East Baltimore. The facility provides more than 200 women–struggling with poverty, homelessness, and addiction–and their children with a place to call “home” while receiving the help they need. Frank also helped lead and complete a campaign to build the FCA Park Heights football and cheerleading teams a new “Park Heights Saints Community Center” at 4804 Reisterstown Road in Baltimore, Maryland. The renovated rowhouse/center was dedicated on March 20, 2019.

A 1986 graduate of Cornell University with a degree in business management, Frank was recognized as a Red Key Scholar-Athlete, played football, and captained the lacrosse team, where he was an All-Ivy League selection. His interest in lacrosse continued after college with several seasons of professional box lacrosse for the Baltimore Thunder of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (today known as the National Lacrosse League–NLL) and many years with The Maryland Lacrosse Club, where he was a multi-time All-Club selection. 

Frank was an assistant football and lacrosse coach for many years at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Maryland, and has coached youth teams in soccer, football, basketball, baseball and lacrosse. He is also the author of Look & See and Influence and The Creator’s Game.

Frank and Gayle have four children, two daughters-in-law and three grandsons.

Frankie Kelly brings extensive expertise in operational efficiency and process improvement to his role as Operations Leader at Kelly Benefits Advantage (KBA). In this capacity, Frankie oversees KBA’s Enrollment and Reconciliation teams, ensuring individuals are seamlessly connected to their carriers to access the care they need. Additionally, he leads the Dedicated Service and Customer Care teams, which are committed to delivering exceptional support to KBA’s clients and their employees.

Before joining Kelly Benefits in 2024 as Director of Finance in Operations & Continuous Improvement, Frankie began his career as a member of the Audit staff at Ernst & Young in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He later joined TechCXO in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Controller/Analyst Resource before moving to Chick-fil-A’s Corporate Support Center, where he led the Drive-Thru Film Study Team for five years. Frankie’s diverse professional background has allowed him to develop strong skills in accounting, financial reporting, streamlining processes, and team building.

Frankie received a Bachelor of Arts in Business and History and a Master of Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also received a Certificate in Next Generation Leadership from Kennesaw State University’s Cox Family Enterprise Center. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

Frankie resides in Baltimore with his wife, Acacia, and their two sons, Quin and Truett.

John Kelly Jr. serves as Vice President and Financial Advisor at Kelly Benefits Advisory. 

Before joining the organization in 2021, John spent several years on the recordkeeper side of the retirement plan business at Principal Financial Group, consulting with top financial advisors and institutionally sized plan sponsors nationwide. He now leads the retirement advisory practice within Kelly Benefits’ Total Benefits Solution® experience and plays a key role in the organization’s growth strategy.

Under John’s leadership, Kelly Benefits Advisory partners with clients to design customized retirement plans aligned with company culture and workforce needs, upholding fiduciary standards through plan design, investment consulting, employee education, administrative support and vendor management. By integrating retirement consulting into a total benefits solution, Kelly Benefits Advisory empowers employers to boost productivity while helping employees retire independently and with dignity.

John is a graduate from The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, with dual degrees in marketing and insurance, and holds his FINRA SIE, Series 6, Series 63 and Series 65 licenses. He was honored as a 2025 40 Under 40 honoree by the Baltimore Business Journal.

As Growth Leader for Kelly Benefits Advantage (KBA), Stephen Kelly focuses on helping KBA meet and exceed its established growth goals while elevating and strengthening broker partnerships. In this role, Stephen oversees KBA’s Broker Sales, Vendor Operations, Broker Management, and Implementation teams.

Before joining Kelly Benefits in 2024, Stephen served as Senior Director of Corporate Development at OneDigital, a national insurance, financial services, and HR consulting firm. In this role, he oversaw buy-side merger and acquisition activity for the Central U.S. region and Florida market. His strategic business acumen, combined with more than six years of merger and acquisition experience and business development, uniquely positions him to drive KBA’s growth initiatives.

Stephen graduated from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. While at UNC, he was a four-year starter, two-time All-American, team captain and national champion (2016) for the men’s lacrosse team. He went on to play professionally for seven years as a face-off specialist for the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), as well as the Cannons and Archers Lacrosse Clubs of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL).

His earlier career includes senior roles within his family’s luxury goods business (Frette) and investment banking in London (Schroders). Federico Rampini journalist, writer, public speaker and geopolitical analyst, was born in Genoa (Italy) in 1956. He grew up in Brussels (Belgium).

Since 2009 he has lived in New York. He is a global columnist for Corriere della Sera, the largest newspaper in Italy, where he publishes the daily digital column “East and West” and a weekly newsletter. Previously he was the US Bureau Chief for the newspaper La Repubblica and a White House correspondent, traveling regularly with three Presidents of the United States (Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Joe Biden) and covering international summits: G7, G20, NATO, ASEAN, APEC.

In 2004 – 2009 he was the China correspondent of La Repubblica. As a special envoy for Asia he covered India, Japan, Southeast Asia, Korea.

From 2000 to 2004 he was West Coast Correspondent and columnist for the global economy of La Repubblica in San Francisco, from that observatory he wrote extensively about the first boom of the digital economy and the “Golden Age” of globalization.

From 1997 to 2000 he was the European editor of La Repubblica, covering the launch of the Euro in Brussels and Frankfurt (headquarters of the European Central Bank).

From 1986 to 1995 he was correspondent in Paris and deputy director of the Sole-24 Ore in Milano.

He has published thirty essays, many of which have been best-selling books in Italy and translated in other European, Asian, Latin American countries. Jacopo Rampini

Jacopo Rampini (born 1986) is an Italian-American actor and writer based in New York. Born in Rome, he grew up in San Francisco and Paris, where he graduated in Literature and Philosophy from the Sorbonne University. He trained as an actor at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

Rampini made his professional stage debut in Sam Gold’s production of A Doll’s House at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2011. Since then, he has appeared in numerous film and television productions across the United States and Europe, including Medici: Masters of Florence (Netflix), Law & Order: SVU (NBC), FBI (CBS), Catch-22 directed by George Clooney (Hulu), The Blacklist (NBC), and Power (Starz).

In Italy, he has starred in Romantiche directed by Giovanni Veronesi (2023), La quattordicesima domenica del tempo ordinario directed by Pupi Avati (2023), and Shakespea Re di Napoli (2023), a film by Ruggero Cappuccio presented at the Rome Film Fest.

In 2025, Rampini co-authored his first novel, Il Gioco del Potere (The Game of Power), with his father, journalist and writer Federico Rampini. Published by Mondadori, the book explores themes of geopolitical conflict, artificial intelligence, and family legacy.

Ali İsmail SABANCI is the Chairman of the Board of Directors at ESAS Holding. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Pegasus Airlines, one of ESAS Private Equity Investments, from January 2005 to March 2023, and continues to serve as a board member since March 2023. He also serves on the Board of ESAS Properties. 

He is also one of the co-founders of ESAS Sosyal, which was established to facilitate sustainable social investment. He focuses on raising awareness of entrepreneurship in Turkiye. From 2009 to 2024, he served as the President of the Young Entrepreneurs Board of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkiye (TOBB). During this period, he led several successful initiatives including Angel Investing Legislation, Global Entrepreneurship Congress, G3 Forum, Global Entrepreneurship Week and TIM Innovation Week - Born Global. He is also an angel investor in over 25 start-up companies.

Ali Sabancı, is a founding board member of GEN Turkiye (Global Entrepreneurship Network), a member of the Board of Trustees of the Entrepreneurship Foundation and a member of the Turkish Family Business Association (TAİDER). In 2018, he was awarded the Légion d'Honneur by the French government in 2018 for his contributions to economic relations between Turkiye and France.

Ali Sabancı earned his M.B.A. degree with a concentration in International Finance from Columbia Business School and B.A. degree in Politics and Economics from Tufts University.

Julia Schwartz is a second-year MBA candidate at Columbia Business School with a strong interest in food and beverage CPG and grocery retail. She holds a BS in Food Science and Viticulture & Enology from Cornell University.

Prior to business school, Julia worked as a food scientist at PepsiCo in New York, supporting the Gatorade brand across food labeling and regulatory compliance for both legacy products and new innovations.

This past summer, she interned at Whole Foods Market in Austin within the Culinary Supply Chain team, where she focused on operations strategy for bakery and ready-to-eat meals.

In the near term, Julia plans to pursue an operations strategy role within grocery retail or a food CPG company. Long term, she aspires to venture into the food and beverage space through Grupo Simpa, her family enterprise in Argentina.

Angelica Ruspoli Visconti was born and raised in Milan where she attended classical studies and received a degree in Business and Economics at Bocconi University in 1997. She also attended Business programmes at New York University and Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University. After a working experience in Duff & Phelps Rating Agency in Milan and Nestlé in the Budget and Control department, she started to work for Image Building, a corporate communication agency in 2000. She joined the Ferragamo Group in 2001 in New York as a marketing director. In 2004, she moved to the Mainland in Shanghai as an assistant to the managing director of Greater China. She returned to Italy in 2007 to follow the Italian retail market and take over the South Europe region for Retail, Wholesale and Travel Retail Channels. She then took responsibility of the Global Wholesale and Travel Retail Department in 2019. She entered the Board of Directors in 2018 and in 2021 was nominated Vice Chairman of the company. 

 

She is now overseeing the Heritage division (including Fondazione, Museum and Archive) and the Silk, Textiles and Accessories Division. She is also a board member of the Group foreign subsidiaries and of Ferragamo S.p.A..

Anand Bhatia (CBS ’16) represents the third generation of leadership in his family’s real estate business. He oversees the daily operations of the Bhatia Family Office, anchored by Bhatia Development Organization, founded in 1978, which has completed over $1 billion of development across New York City, including luxury residential, high-street retail, and university-affiliated housing.

Since joining the business in 2016, Anand has led hundreds of millions of dollars in transaction volume across acquisitions, financings, and dispositions. He directs capital markets strategy and business development, overseeing debt and equity raises, structuring joint ventures, and cultivating long-term institutional and family office partnerships.

Anand began his career at Tishman Speyer, a global real estate private equity firm with over $60 billion in assets under management. As a member of its Leadership Development Program, he rotated across investment, asset management, and development teams before serving as Chief of Staff to the Global Head of Design & Construction, helping oversee a $3 billion development pipeline across four continents.

More recently, alongside his brother Aakash Bhatia (CBS ’23), he helped launch a new investment arm of his family office focused on acquiring and operating multifamily assets in high-growth U.S. markets. The platform now owns and manages over 1,300 units and approximately $200 million in assets across Texas and Virginia.

Anand resides in New York City with his wife, Parul, and their daughter, Alaara. He serves as Secretary of the Alumni Council for the Horace Mann School and is a member of the Children’s Health Council at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Bio

Ashli Carter is a Senior Lecturer in the Management Division at Columbia Business School. Currently, she teaches topics in leadership, negotiations, and cultivating a growth mindset in the MBA and Executive Education programs, as well as for CBS administrators and staff. Prior to joining CBS faculty, she taught MBA and undergraduate courses in leadership and professional ethics at NYU Stern where she was an Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow of Management and Organizations. Ashli studies how seeing the “forest” (thinking more abstractly) versus seeing the “trees” (thinking more concretely) shapes how individuals respond to unexpected or unwanted outcomes in the workplace. She is also interested in stereotypes regarding different groups’ ability to think more abstractly and examines how these stereotypes shape opportunities in the workplace and in society more broadly. More recently, she has begun to explore ways that AI-generated art can bring teams and collaborators closer together. In addition to her teaching and research, she works with professionals one-on-one and in small groups as a leadership coach to share simple, research-backed strategies that help individuals better understand themselves and others, align their everyday behaviors with their underlying values, and expand into their highest potential self. Ashli Carter received a PhD and MA in Management from Columbia Business School and a BA (with honors) in Psychology from Stanford University.

Gaia Marchisio, Ph.D., is a family-enterprise researcher, consultant, educator, speaker, and writer with 25+ years of impact across global family enterprises, academic institutions, corporations, public-sector organizations, and others. 

Currently Sr Lecturer in Discipline and Faculty Director of the Global Family Enterprise Program at Columbia Business School, Gaia is former Executive Director of Cox Family Enterprise Center, Aronoff Professor of Family Business at Kennesaw State University, and visiting scholar at family-business-focused education institutions worldwide. 

As program creator and researcher, Gaia has worked with IFC (World Bank), Family Business Network in Asia (as Chief Learning Officer),McKinsey, and others, and is on faculty with the Canada-based FEA designation. As speaker, she has presented on wide-ranging topics at YPO, Egon Zehnder, Grant Thornton, and many others. 

Gaia is co-author of the forthcoming book Own It! How to Develop a Family Enterprise Owner's Mindset at Every Age (Palgrave-McMillan). 

Gaia founded the Family Enterprise Clinic in 2014 and continues to lead it, working with family enterprises on succession, governance, and other issues, collaborating with interdisciplinary advisors. 

Originally from Italy, Gaia is a naturalized US citizen who speaks fluent English, Italian, and Spanish. She holds a Bachelor's in Business Management from Bocconi University and a Ph.D. in General Management from Università Degli Studi di Pavia.

Bio

Michael Morris is the Chavkin-Chang Professor of Leadership at CBS and also serves as Professor in the Psychology Department of Columbia University.

He teaches MBA and executive-level classes on leadership, teamwork, communication, negotiation, and decision-making. Morris teaches the core class, LEAD, that starts the MBA curriculum. He teaches the elective, Managerial Negotiations, an EMBA elective Global Negotiations, and short executive education classes on negotiation. In 2016, he was honored with the Dean's Award for Innovation in the Curriculum for creating one of the school's most popular elective courses: The Leader's Voice, a class focusing on modes of leadership communication.

Professor Morris has published over 200 articles in leading behavioral science and management journals on topics such as decision-making, social judgment, negotiation, and social networks. His early research on culture and cognition helped to spark the growth of cultural psychology and his more recent research on the triggering and learning of cultural codes has helped to shift the field to a more dynamic conception of cultural influences. His scientific papers have received international awards from scholarly societies in the fields of social psychology, judgment and decision-making, psychology in the public interest, Asian psychology, management, human resources, marketing, and others. His debut popular book Tribal (published in October 2024) argues that leaders can harness shared cultural identities to unify and mobilize groups of people to work together.

In service to the field, Morris serves as a consulting editor at Journal of International Business and at Management and Organization Review, a journal on management in Chinese societal contexts that helped to found. In the past he served as an associate editor at Psychological Review, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Trust Research, and others.

Professor Morris founded the Leadership Lab, which worked to develop richer training in social intelligence rather than just technical business skills. Before that, Morris launched the school's Behavioral Lab and Postdoctoral Fellow programs to foster behavioral science research. He has served on the university’s Institutional Review Board and co-developed its ethical policies for international research. He currently serves on the university's Committee on Global Thought and chaired the school's recent Organizational Culture Committee.

Outside of academia, Professor Morris has consulted with and conducted executive training workshops for hundreds of clients across the globe, including Fortune 100 firms, foundations, and governments. He has advised the Pentagon on frameworks for dealing cultural differences and has helped Intelligence Agencies apply knowledge of cultural differences in cybersecurity programs. He is part of a group of behavioral scientists known for advising Presidential campaigns.

Prior to joining Columbia in 2001, Professor Morris was a tenured Professor at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and Psychology Department. He served as a visiting professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995, the University of Hong Kong in 2000, Harvard Business School and Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2008, and INSEAD-Europe in 2022 and INSEAD-Asia in 2023.
