What is Verification?
Verification is a required process established by the U.S. Department of Education to check the accuracy of aid applications. After filing a FAFSA, students may be randomly selected by The Department of Education for verification. Under federal regulations, the CBS Financial Aid Office is required to collect and verify documentation before we can certify federal loans.
How will I know I’m Selected for Verification?
You will be notified by the CBS Financial Aid Office via email and it will be listed in the comment section of your Student Aid Report (SAR) that is generated after submitting the FAFSA.
What Documents are Required and How do I Submit?
You will be required to submit a Statement of Educational Purpose and a copy of an unexpired ID. You will have the option to either complete a form in-person with a member of our staff or a form with a notary. You will receive a detailed email from our office with instructions on how to access the required documents and how to submit.
What Happens if I Do Not Complete the Process?
If selected for verification and you do not complete the process, you will not be eligible to receive any federal loans, including the Direct Unsubsidized Loan and Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. If you are no longer planning to borrow federal loans, please email us at [email protected] and we will make note on your financial record to avoid further communication. Completing verification is only required if you would like to borrow federal loans.
