Educational Benefits
Across Columbia University's many schools and programs, veterans of the US Armed Forces play an integral part in the student life, academic endeavors, and intellectual accomplishments of the University. This section provides an online resource for learning about the various scholarship opportunities and educational benefits available to veterans.
Chapter 33 – Post 9/11 GI Bill
Depending on time of service and use of the benefit students will receive 50%-100% of a lump sum determined by the VA in each academic year. The 100% amount for the 2024-25 academic year is $28,937.09
Yellow Ribbon
In addition to the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, higher education institutions can provide eligible student veterans with a tuition waiver or grant that is matched by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. This program, known as the Yellow Ribbon Program, enhances the base tuition benefits provided by the Post-9/11 GI Bill® for students who have 100% eligibility. Columbia Business School is honored to be participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program. We currently offer the Yellow Ribbon Program Scholarship to all veterans who are 100% eligible. CBS contributes $20,000, which totals $40,000 per academic year with the VA match.
Chapter 31 -Veteran Readiness and Employment
Veterans with a service-connected disability that limits their ability to work or prevents them from working, can apply for Veteran Readiness and Employment (formerly called Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment). To initiate the application process you would contact the VA to be assigned a VR&E Counselor. If approved, Chapter 31 or VR&E will cover your tuition and mandatory fees in full.
Application of Benefits
The GI Bill and a portion of Yellow Ribbon (if applicable) is applied to the first semester of enrollment, and the larger portion of Yellow Ribbon to the second semester. This varies depending on program (MBA, EMBA, MS), so please reach out to us at [email protected] with specific questions.
