Activision — Gilles Bejjani

- Internship Title: Activision Tech Strategy – MBA Intern
- Location: Los Angeles, CA
- How did you find your summer internship?
My internship within Activision’s Central Tech team was extremely satisfying, both on the professional and personal levels. Professionally, I found myself within one of the most established gaming studios, supporting the launch of a major gaming title played by millions globally (Call of Duty: MWII). I also felt privileged to be working alongside and learning from veteran gaming talent and enthusiasts. Aside from that, the culture within Activision was amazing and I got to take part of a very entertaining return-to-office, featuring BBQs, gaming competitions, swag giveaways, fun photoshoots, etc. Overall, a perfect internship experience! - Most interesting project/takeaway from the summer?
Towards the end of my internship, I felt like I had acquired a much more holistic understanding of the gaming industry. Specifically, I had a stronger grasp of how major games are developed, and what are the different types of artists, engineers and other talent required to make a successful, entertaining video game. I also got to learn how the gaming ecosystem functions as a whole (i.e., what are the types of players in the market, how to monetize games, what are the major game engines and how do they differ, how and where are games sold, etc.). - What 1st Year CBS class/experience was most useful during your summer internship?
The Leader’s Voice is the course that I felt had the biggest impact on my summer experience. It allowed me to improve my presentation and public speaking skills, which I consciously or unconsciously relied on throughout the internship, from the interviews up until the final presentation. - Job before CBS?
Before joining CBS, I was a management consultant at Strategy&, Dubai. I had also launched a VR gaming startup in Beirut, Lebanon but unfortunately stopped its operations as a result of the pandemic and the resulting lockdown.

I was placed on the internal operations team at Google Customer Solutions (main driver of Google revenues). I was tasked to help the team with an organizational problem. For one of my projects, I took all of the shows released on streaming services within the past year and analyzed their performance. I identified commonalities between the best performing shows and worst performing shows to help shape Netflix’s content strategy moving forward. - What 1st Year CBS class/experience was most useful during your summer internship?

- Most interesting project/takeaway from the summer?
I attended NFT.nyc during the second week of my internship—it was fascinating to see that every Fortune500 company was there trying to figure out what to do in Web3 and how to actualize it. My team also launched Nickelodeon Rugrats/Hey Arnold NFTs during my summer which was pretty cool a kid of the 90s. - What 1st Year CBS class/experience was most useful during your summer internship?
Sharad Devarajan’s Media, Marketing & Entrepreneurship block week class was the best preparation for my internship. From learning about the NFT space from Mila Kunis to understanding how to leverage tentpole IP to build businesses, I referenced many guest speakers and lessons learned in that class throughout the summer. - Job before CBS:
I had a very non-traditional journey to CBS—I was a professional opera singer for five years before pivoting into the tech sector and becoming a Chief of Staff at two tech companies. I hoped to combine my passion for emerging technology with my creative background and am thrilled I was been able to do just that at Paramount.

I did a competitive analysis of 50+ companies’ metaverse experiences and came up with 12 use cases for the metaverse outside of gaming. My take-away is that I want to have a career in the metaverse space and be at the forefront of the disruption of technology - What 1st Year CBS class/experience was most useful during your summer internship?
Strategy was definitely helpful. I took the VR/AI class with Sharad Devarajan after the internship which I have to plug because it is by far the best class at CBS and it solidified my interest in the space - Job before CBS?

At the MBA/post-MBA level, a self-starter style work ethic is imperative to success. By building my network, maintaining curiosity, and staying ontop of team goals and finding ways to contribute to them, I was able to leave a strong impression. - What 1st Year CBS class/experience was most useful during your summer internship?
After the core curriculum I felt very empowered to dive headfirst into challenges and was taught the power of speaking up and finding my voice. As part of TikTok’s social commerce strategy, I conducted a market research project that analyzed various user trends on and off platform to better inform brands and creators on how to maximize user engagement and increase ad conversion. The final deliverable included in-depth recommendations of product offerings and enhancements to scale business for brands and TikTok creators. As an additional deliverable, I conducted a market research project on the gaming ecosystem which will be used to inform TikTok’s 2-year gaming entrance strategy. - What 1st Year CBS class/experience was most useful during your summer internship?
During my first year, I took a media consulting projects class that was super helpful during my summer internship. Given I was in a strategy role, the class provided a framework for how I should think about solving problems and providing my clients clear recommendations. - Job before CBS?
Prime Brokerage Operations Associate @ Goldman Sachs. In this role I worked as a first point of contact for hedge fund clients trading fixed income and equity products by helping to manage and grow their portfolio. I also worked closely with clients and their stakeholders to mitigate market risk across all global markets.
Warner Bros. Discovery — Daniel Borkin

I had the opportunity to work on the strategy behind combining HBO Max and discovery+ into one streaming product. I found the work to be stimulating, meaningful, introspective, and formative.
