Investing in startups has risen in popularity in the last decade, with reality TV shows like Shark Tank casting a spotlight on the startup ecosystem. While investing in early-stage startups can be a lucrative aspect of your investment strategy, it does not come without significant risk, so it is important to understand how to evaluate potential investment opportunities. In this session, Professor Lee will provide a primer on a framework you can use to ask the right questions before writing your first check.

Business, Artificial Intelligence, and Democracy: Professor Bruce Kogut
David Geffen Hall, Cooperman Commons
Bruce Kogut, Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Professor of Leadership and Ethics, Management Division, Academic Director of BAID, Hub Faculty
The artificial intelligence revolution coincides with the growing sense of a weakening of democracy in the world, including the United States as it approaches its November elections. Far from being coincidental, plausible evidence points to the relation of AI to the ailments of democracy; misinformation, deep fakes, targeting of political refugees and individuals. Business stands in the center of these struggles, unable to find solutions to moderate or detect misinformation or to establish and enforce principles for a responsible AI. Our discussion enters into central issues of threat of AI, as well as to the many actions that business and new forms of governance can do to protect democracy.
