Something has shifted in classrooms. Some students who used to arrive having done the reading now often arrive having had AI do it for them. The incentive structure has shifted. When a tool can generate a passable answer in seconds, it’s harder for students to see the value in putting in the work upfront.
This teaching guide is for faculty sitting with that tension. It offers practical tools for three related challenges: keeping students genuinely engaged, designing activities that AI can’t easily shortcut, and using AI yourself as a strategic teaching partner within the ReCAP framework.
