At Columbia Business School, we believe that diversity strengthens any community or business model and brings it greater success. Columbia Business School is committed to providing all students with the equal opportunity to thrive in the classroom by providing a learning, living, and working environment free from discrimination, harassment, and bias on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or ability.
If there is immediate risk to a student's health or safety, please contact Columbia Public Safety (Manhattanville) at 212-853-3333.
Disability Services
Columbia Business School will make reasonable accommodations for persons with documented disabilities. Columbia University’s Office of Disability Services (ODS) coordinates these accommodations and support services for students. Instructors, if a student inquires about accommodations, please refer them to ODS at [email protected] or 212-854-2388 for information about registration and available services.
Disability Services liaisons are designated faculty or staff from each school, academic program, or campus service who work with ODS to coordinate accommodations for students with disabilities. After students are approved for accommodations, the liaison will contact the instructor to let them know that a student in their course has been approved for accommodations. The Disability Services liaison is Collin McDermott (for MBA) and April Franz (for EMBA). Contact the MS/PhD Office regarding MS/PhD students. Cross-registered (non-CBS) students should contact ODS or the Disability Services liaison at their School; once approved for accommodations, ODS or the liaison will connect with the liaison at CBS to coordinate accommodations.
Gender-Based Misconduct
Columbia Business School is committed to maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and faculty. Because of this commitment and because of federal and state regulations, if a student tells an instructor, staff member or administrator about sexual harassment or gender-based misconduct involving a member of the campus community, the instructor/staff member/administrator is required to report this information to a Title IX Coordinator by emailing [email protected] or filling out this form or calling 212-853-1276. They will treat this information as private, but will need to follow up with the student and possibly look into the matter. “Gender-based misconduct” includes sexual assault, stalking, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, and gender-based harassment. Read about the University's Gender-Based Misconduct and Title IX policies here.
In addition, Counseling and Psychological Services, the Office of the University Chaplain, and the Ombuds Office are confidential resources available for students, staff and faculty.
Other Student Support Resources
Instructors, if you have concerns about a student's wellbeing or academic progress, you are encouraged to contact their academic advisor or program office (OSA/EMBA/MS/PhD). Their academic advisor should be listed in the Photo Roster tool in Canvas. For cross-registered students, contact their School’s office of student affairs. You can also encourage your students to connect with their academic advisor directly, to discuss their needs and seek support. Some info about resources available to students can be found on OSA's Student Support Resources page.
