The Curriculum and Instruction Committee (CIC) is responsible for oversight of the School’s elective courses. Its voting members include the Senior Vice Dean for Curriculum and Programs (who is a tenured professor and chair of the CIC) and one tenured professor from each division. The divisional representatives are elected by the full-time faculty of their divisions and serve renewable terms of three years. The CIC reviews new courses and gives feedback to the division/faculty, especially on potential content overlap with courses in other divisions. While the Committee does not formally approve new courses, it will review them after they are taught three times (3T Approval). Elective courses are reviewed regularly and the Committee can recommend to the division, center, or program that the course be modified or that a given faculty member not teach the course. Find more information about the CIC, including a list of current members, on the School's Faculty Governance website.
