About the W. Edwards Deming Center
The W. Edwards Deming Center for Quality, Productivity, and Competitiveness was founded in 1993 to honor the achievements of Dr. W. Edwards Deming, esteemed advisor, consultant, author, and teacher, following his death. Mentor to some of the most influential businessmen, corporations, and scientific pioneers of business process reengineering, and described as a Japanese folk hero for his role in the rise of its industry following World War II, Dr. Deming joined the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University in 1988 at the invitation of Professor John Whitney. Today, the Center promotes operational excellence by developing curriculum materials for new generations of managers, recognizing senior executives through forums and events, and conducting applied research related to the field of operations management.
