Venture:
Teratonix
Founders:
Yi Luo ’00GSAS and Johnny Huang ’08BUS
Industry:
Cleantech and energy harvesting
Venture Type:
For-profit
What is the social or environmental issue being addressed?
Directly, their radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting solution can recover wasted energy by efficiently generating clean electricity from the RF signals in the environment, such as cellular and Wi-Fi signals, and reduce batteries waste and the associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from battery manufacturing processes by replacing batteries. In addition, by enabling the large scale deployment of battery-free IoT sensors for applications in energy efficiency and environmental monitoring, their solution can have broad impact on GHG emission reduction.
Innovation:
Their RF energy harvesting solution is based on the patented invention of a novel semiconductor diode, which made breakthroughs on ambient RF harvesting efficiency and broadband capability.
