Impact Investing for the Creative Economy — February 28, 2024
Columbia Business School students gathered to learn about how investing in creative businesses can be a powerful driver of quality jobs, social and economic inclusion, and vibrant communities. Moderated by Dan Wang, the event featured Upstart Co-Lab Founding Partner Laura Callanan and Senior Associate Aparna Bagade '24. Upstart Co-Lab is connecting capital with creative people who make a profit and make a difference, working at the intersection of impact investing and the creative economy, which includes industries such as fashion, film and TV, and food.
This event was co-organized by the Social Enterprise Club and the Tamer Institute for Social Enterprise and Climate Change.
Inclusive Entrepreneurship Pilot Event: Artist Talk — April 26, 2023
Fellows Aileen Lee '23, Jamie Adler '23, and Kathryn Benvenuti '23 hosted an Artist Talk event at Columbia Business School, a pilot event with the goal of introducing Columbia Business School to the local art ecosystem in Upper Manhattan. The talk featured a conversation between Dodji Gbedemah, co-owner of Harlem-based Kente Royal Gallery, speaking with Brooklyn-based artist Demarcus McGaughey

Local Venture & Community Economic Development Forum — April 20, 2023
Fellowship partners, students, and local community members gathered for conversation, connections, and breakfast at Columbia Business School. From the inaugural cohort of Inclusive Entrepreneurship Fellows, teams that worked with partner organizations shared their findings and project outcomes.

Community Art & Innovation Neighborhood Reception — April 17, 2023
Community members and students gathered for conversation, connections, and a reception with food from local vendors at Columbia Business School. From the inaugural cohort of Inclusive Entrepreneurship Fellows, independently led teams gathered to share initial findings around ambitions, challenges, and needs of the local community. Students shared early project proposals as they looked to create positive social and economic impact.

Inclusive Entrepreneurship Harlem Walking Tour — April 7, 2023
Students in the Inclusive Entrepreneurship Fellowship met at the Schomburg Center and for a historical tour hosted by locally-owned and operated boutique tour company, Welcome to Harlem. Welcome to Harlem is a NYC and NY State certified minority and women-owned business.

Neighborhood Open House — November 7, 2022
Members of the local Harlem and Upper Manhattan community, as well as students, faculty, and staff from Columbia met one another for casual conversations, free-form idea sharing, and networking. As part of Professor Dan Wang’s Inclusive Entrepreneurship Initiative, this event helped neighbors meet each other and share the ambitions and perspectives of community members. Attendees enjoyed catering from local vendors Tres Leches Cafe and Evelyn’s Kitchen and live jazz from Soul Guard jazz band. The event featured introductory remarks from Professor Dan Wang, Kaaryn Simmons, Lacie Pierre ‘23, and community leaders.
