What is the social or environmental issue being addressed?
We are addressing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. Across Kenya and Uganda, 20 million people face food insecurity. In Uganda, nearly thirty percent of children under five suffer from stunting due to malnutrition. Almost thirty percent of Ugandans and thirty-five percent of Kenyans live in poverty, largely due to lack of employment opportunities.
Innovation:
Nourish All leverages mushrooms as a sustainable solution for food security, nutrition, and income. We support establishment of mushroom agribusinesses, owned and operated by refugees and rural women.
Nourish All works exclusively with local partners, providing project development, training, and funding. We co-create programs, manage projects, and build capacity. We train on low-tech mushroom growing, grain spawn production, and value addition. We provide seed funding and, after successful pilots, fundraising support to scale up.
Our work has generated over 5,500 kgs of fresh mushrooms and 300,000 nutritional servings of mushrooms; created 293 jobs; and trained 505 individuals in East Africa.
