What is the social or environmental issue being addressed?
In Pakistan, pre-hospital care is almost nonexistent for both physical and psychological emergencies. A large portion of the Pakistani population, especially in rural areas, does not have easy access to hospitals and mental health services. These difficulties are further compounded by a widespread reliance on unqualified “doctors,” rampant medical misinformation, and a social stigma regarding mental health issues.
Innovation:
Saving 9 builds self-sustaining communities of care. This is done by working closely with community stakeholders to spread training and change mindsets, create collaborative networks between existing organizations and resources, and establish pre-hospital care systems that then help save lives.
