Shale oil and gas have transformed the energy landscape in the U.S. However, China's shale natural gas reserves are even larger and China has significant shale oil as well. So far, China has not tapped these reserves in a significant way. This conference will consider the lessons learned from the U.S. experience while also considering unique aspects of the Chinese experience. The conference will include academics from the U.S. and China as well as government officials and energy industry experts. The conference is a joint effort of Columbia Law School, Columbia School of International and Public Affairs, and the Peking University Law School.
